This article is devoted to the immune system and its role in protecting the body from infections. The main mechanisms of innate and adaptive immunity are considered, as well as the historical development of methods for the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases since the beginning of the 20th century. The article discusses the prospects for the future development of immunology and its significance in future medicine.
