Abstract

This study examines the morphometric parameters of the spleen during the antenatal period of human development. The formation of the primary mesenchymal anlage was detected at 5–6 weeks of intrauterine development. By 10–12 weeks, differentiation of the white and red pulp was identified. Peaks of lymphoid proliferation were recorded at 18–20 and 26–28 weeks, correlating with an increase in fetal immune activity. By 28–30 weeks of gestation, the spleen acquired morphofunctional characteristics comparable to those of a newborn organ.
