Abstract

The use of digital technologies in teaching English creates new pedagogical opportunities for improving learners’ communicative competence, language autonomy, motivation, and intercultural awareness. In philological higher education, digital tools are not limited to technical support; they function as didactic resources that transform the structure, content, and methodology of language instruction. Learning management systems, online dictionaries, multimedia platforms, corpora, mobile applications, artificial intelligence tools, virtual communication environments, and interactive assessment systems allow teachers to organize English lessons in a more flexible, student-centered, and practice-oriented way. In the context of higher education, digital technologies help future philologists develop listening, speaking, reading, writing, translation, analytical, and research skills through authentic materials and real communicative situations. The pedagogical value of digital technologies is especially visible when they are integrated with communicative, task-based, blended, and collaborative learning approaches. At the same time, effective use of digital technologies requires methodological preparation, digital literacy, academic discipline, and critical selection of online resources. The article examines the pedagogical opportunities of using digital technologies in English language teaching, focusing on their role in developing language competence, independent learning, motivation, assessment transparency, and professional readiness of students in philological universities. The study emphasizes that digitalization should not replace the teacher’s pedagogical role but should strengthen instruction through meaningful interaction, feedback, differentiation, and access to diverse linguistic and cultural content.
