Abstract

This article examines pedagogical and organizational approaches to improving the quality and effectiveness of physical education among fifth- and sixth-grade students in general education schools. Drawing on international health recommendations, UNESCO guidance and peer-reviewed research, it considers how lesson structure, motor-skill development, differentiated instruction, motivation and formative assessment can be combined into a coherent teaching approach. Particular attention is given to the transition between primary and lower-secondary schooling, when differences in prior movement experience and physical development become increasingly visible. A practical lesson-planning model and criteria for monitoring instructional quality are proposed. The article is a narrative, evidence-informed analysis rather than a report of an original experiment. Its central argument is that better physical education should be evaluated not only by exercise intensity or fitness scores but also by meaningful participation, technical progress, safety and students’ willingness to remain active beyond school.
