ETHNIC IDENTITY IN UZBEK FOLKLORE: ANALYSIS OF EPICS AND PROVERBS

This article analyzes Uzbek folk oral literature — epics and proverbs — from an ethnological perspective as the main means of forming and transmitting ethnic identity. The study studies ethnic values, behavioral norms, social ideals, and historical memory reflected in the epics "Alpomish", "Go'ro'g'li" and "Ravshan" as well as Uzbek folk proverbs. The author proves the role of oral literature in transmitting ethnic identity from generation to generation by comparing it with modern ethnological theories (Hobsbawm, Assmann, Propp). The study shows that the system of Uzbek epics and proverbs constitutes a holistic ethnic identity program.
